Parkinn || A cough in the night.

parkertheoneandonly:

Parker just stared at her baby and did as Finn told her. Dabbing the damp towel against Ava’s forehead every once in a while. Parker managed to smile at her daughter every now and again, giving her kisses to follow. She didn’t want to alarm the baby since she was acting calm right now. Parker couldn’t contain herself much longer though. “Finn…” She tried to say. “How could this have happened?!” She started talking to herself since she knew Finn couldn’t hear her. Parker started to rock Ava in her arms trying to console her the best she could. It seemed so surreal that anything like this could happen to her family. Ava was born premature and the doctors had told Parker and Finn that she could get sick. But neither one of them believed it. From the moment Ava was brought into the house Parker thought she could protect her from any danger.

Sliding her coat on as Finn instructed Parker made sure not to move Ava around too much. Then she hurried out of the house and stood by the car waiting for Finn to open the door. Parker carefully buckled Ava in her car seat and closed the door turning to face Finn. “Oh right, yeah I should sit with her.” She said all frazzled. Parker walked around the car and sat in the back seat next to Ava. She smiled at her baby and held her little hand. Once Finn had returned he quickly started the car and raced to the hospital. Things were silent in the car for the first few minutes. Parker hadn’t noticed that she had started to cry until she tried speaking and her words weren’t coming out right. “Finn… She… Ava… She’s going to be… alright… right?” Now she felt the tears streaming down her cheek. Parker didn’t know how to react. The only thing she wanted to do was embrace herself in Finn’s arms. But she also wanted to hold Ava tightly and never let her go.

The car arrived at the hospital and Parker was already unbuckling Ava from her car seat before the car came to a stop. She picked up the baby and almost jumped out of the car, sprinting into the ER. “Please somebody, I need a doctor! My baby is sick!!” Parker began to pant, completely out of breath. Not long after Parker had yelled, a group of nurses came to assess the situation. They put Ava on a gurney and tried to reasure Parker and Finn that everything would be fine. “Wait let me go with you! That is my baby! I need to be with her!” The nurses paid no attention to her and started to move. As Parker watched her baby be pushed away from her she began to sob. Her hands covered her face and she felt like she couldn’t breath. She became weak in the knees and thought she was going to collapse. “Oh Finn!” Parker winced.

Finn grabbed Ava’s diaper bag and toy just in case she needed them. He raced into the hospital, only in time to set Ava being rushed away. His mind was forced take in all that was happening. ‘Ava was sick, really sick. He didn’t know how bad it was, and the doctors weren’t taking them with her.’ Finn himself felt as if he might fall, so he guided Parker to the seat behind them and held her close. “Its going to be okay, She’s going to be fine. They’ll take care of her.” Finn mumbled into Parker’s hair in a soothing tone. He was convincing although he didn’t quite know for himself. In the pit on Finns stomach he felt useless. There was nothing he could to beside just sit there, and wait. Finn looked down at the toy he clutched in his hand, and one tear escaped his eye.

They had to have been sitting there for hours, or a least it felt like it. Finn couldn’t sit still. He had gotten up to pace several times, as he was doing now. He felt like freaking out, just screaming even if it had no point. He wanted to see Ava, and he wanted to know what was wrong. Time and time again, he caught himself staring at the door in which the doctor would come from. His mind was taken off of Ava a little when the receptionist, who he hadn’t even realized was there asked him to fill out some paper work. “Sure..” He agreed. “I have nothing else to do..” Finn hoped Parker hadn’t heard him speak, the cause he even recognized his voice as pathetic. Finn took the papers and sat back down next to the worried girl. “She’ll be fine.” He said to her again, placing a hand on her back. “She’ll be fine…” He mumbled, starting to fill out all the forms. Once he was done, Finn put them back on the woman’s desk. He was shocked at what happened next.

The doors that Finn was sure were locked shut, or something, had finally opened. He met the doctors eyes, as the man asked. “Are you the parents of Ava Fabray-Hudson?” Finn felt like he might fall again, and placed a steadying hand on the desk. “Yes, that’s us.” He said giving Parker a quick glance. “We believe Ava had Respiratory Syncytial Virus, which has now turned into pneumonia.” The doctor announced reading off a chart. “We have her on IV fluids and and antibiotics, though she wont stop crying.” He said scratching at the back of his head. Finn held up his hand holding her toy. “She wants this.” He said showing it, but not offering it for the doctor to take. “Can we see her now?” He said staring at the doors behind the doctor. ”Oh yes, of course..” The doctor began to walk int the direction Ava was. Finn could barely breath as he saw Ava, laying there in the little bed crying. He walked over to her without hesitation, and put the toy into her little searching arms. The crying immediately stopped, and Finn could help but give his daughter a small smile.
